The Icon of the Mother of God known as the “Blessed Heaven” Icon is in the
Iconostasis of the Cathedral Church of the Archangel in the Moscow Kremlin. We
know that it used to be in Smolensk, and that it was translated to Moscow by
Sophia, daughter of Lithuanian Prince Vitovt, at the time she married Prince
Vasily Dmitrievitch (1389 - 1425) of Moscow. The Icon bears a full-length
depiction of the Mother of God, with the Divine Infant on her left arm. Some
people refer to this Icon as the “What shall we call thee” Icon of the Mother of
God.
The Icon is celebrated on March 6 and on the Sunday of All Saints.
